Social Media Marketing is becoming a huge marketing venue that you can't ignore if you want to reach a lot of people.

According to a research report from Strategy Analytics, Social Media Applications like Facebook, MySpace, YouTube and Flickr are expected to attract over one billion broadband users within five years. That's a heck of a lot of people and you know what it means. It means an unlimited market of people to sell your wares to. Don't ignore it.

A few months ago, I posted an article that talked about using Social Networks as a marketing tool. If you haven't looked at it, now's a good time. With the new year not that far off, it's time to start planning for next set of marketing and advertising plans to generate sales. Looking at the various social media/network sites out there and who's using them is an important first step in figuring out how to use them to your advantage.

Social Media Marketing or SMM (another acronym to add to the growing repository), has many aspects:

  • Creating Profiles - with very complete descriptions of your company or yourself if you are doing it from a personal approach
  • Use of email within a social media site for blasting a group you've set up
  • Creating groups with related interests
  • Use of Comments and bulletins

SMM is a great way to increase traffic to your website too and improve your search engine status. This is because search engines love to see links to your site and content related to your site on other sites. It results in higher rankings for your site.

So think about that number a little more: 1 billion users. There's got to be a few people in there that want your product or service. Don't let this opportunity go to waste!
