Learn how to increase search engine rankings with an inbound link building program. More website visitors in a few easy steps!

One of the most important things a webmaster can know is how to increase website traffic. Without online traffic, a website won’t be seen and will be rendered pointless.

This article explains the importance of a good Google Page Rank (PR) for attracting more website visitors using the simple strategy of inbound link building.

What is a Google Page Rank?

A Google Page Rank is a complex formula based on inbound link analysis. In short, the more inbound links a website has, the more “votes” it gets, and Google attributes it with a higher Page Rank. Young or immature websites start with a PR of 0, whereas the most popular or well-established websites in the world have a PR of 10.

Why is a Google Page Rank so important?

Google is the leader in online searches, and is usually the primary source of online traffic for any website. Yahoo comes a distant second, followed by MSN Live Search and ASK. When an internet user types a search term into Google, the most appropriate higher ranking pages arrive at the top of the search results.

How to Improve a Google Page Rank

Although the Page Rank algorithm is complicated, webmasters can benefit by building plenty of inbound links with some simple rules in mind:

To seek inbound links from...

  • websites with high Google Page Ranks
  • websites based on a similar or related topics
  • a homepage or tier one page

To avoid inbound links from...

  • websites with a Page Rank of 0
  • spam websites and link farms

Where do inbound links come from? There are several ways to feature on external websites, which all form part of a good inbound link building program:

Online Directory Listings

There are thousands of online directories which list websites with a brief description and link to the homepage. Many accept free submissions although they take weeks or months to process a new listing. Nonetheless, this approach pays off in the long term. Faster listings (within 24 hours) are available for a price but this can add up when submitting to hundreds of directories.

Social Bookmarking

To quickly improve a website’s Page Rank, submit the homepage to plenty of social bookmarking sites. Again, there are thousands to choose from so stick to the popular, higher ranking ones such as Digg, Delicious, Facebook, Furl, Reddit, StumbleUpon and Technorati.

Blogs

Bloggers need to add value to their comment-driven websites, so linking to a quality external resource is always appealing. Sometimes bloggers will notice a website and provide that link automatically, but it can help to put a website under their nose. Be sure to target blogs with a high Google Page Rank that are updated frequently, and ones that feature related content.
